Workload Rejection Template Letter Update

We continue to be notified about inappropriate prescribing requests being sent to GPs. There is currently no indication that provider colleagues are escalating their lack of prescribing infrastructure internally, but rather deflecting their own prescribing responsibility back into general practice.

We have therefore amended the workload rejection template letter to explicitly state that if the provider lacks adequate prescribing infrastructure (e.g. electronic prescribing, or qualified prescribers) they should raise this within their own organisation, not with the GP. The amended wording reads:

  • issuing adequate quantities of prescriptions following discharge (11.9) and clinic appointments (11.10). If you lack adequate infrastructure to prescribe a medication for yourself, for example electronic prescribing or qualified prescribers, please raise this internally and do not request the GP prescribe on this inappropriate basis.
